Dimensions: 70 x 68 x1-2 cm 

 

Discussion: This layer was fairly distinct in colour and came away as a clear layer towards the edge but became more mixed into 3000 and 3601 towards the centre. Some small patches occured throughout the 'oven' but not to the same extent.

In situ fire remains - ash- in 'open' area space 115. 

 

Recognition: Area of ash, easily recognized. 

Definition: Slopes off on all sides. 

Execution: Trowel. Half sectioned. 

Condition: Good. 

Consistency: Extremely friable. 

Colour: Ashy layer (Western half) between 10 YR 6/1 gray and 6/2 light brownish gray. 

Texture: Very silty. 

Bedding: Massive. 

Inclusions: Charcoal <2%, some bone. 

Post-depositional Features: None. 

Basal Boundary: Strong slope towards East to West ~35-40 degrees, very sharp distinctness and prominant contrast. Smooth - wavy form.
