Unit 3601
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Layer in oven,Open Fire
Data Category Information: Description: fire spots (non-structured); Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: The orange colour of this deposit was more easy to distinguish on the surface, and once dug began to blend with the grey ash of 3365. It was impossible to see whether 3601 was on top or below 3365 and was probably at the same level. Small patches of this colour appeared throughout the 'oven' deposit, and the base.
In situ fire remains in 'open' area 115.
Recognition: Orange layer within other burnt/ashy deposit.
Definition: Defined to the East by a spread of dark brown burnt material (3600) and to the West and South by an ashy layer (3365).
Execution: Half sectioned and trowelled.
Condition: Good.
Consistency: Extremely friable.
Colour: 10 YR 6/4 Light yellowish brown.
Texture: Silty / ashy.
Bedding: Massive.
Inclusions: Small bones.
Post-depositional Features: None.
Basal Boundary: Quite mixed into adjacent ashy material - difficult to define, a bit smooth.
