Unit 3367
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: burial fill,Midden
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: 0.7 m N-S x 0.6 m x 60 mm deep.
Discussion: Fill of burial in space 115. Appears to be at interface of ashy fine midden deposit and more dump like infill deposits (as in 117). Skull of skeleton 3368 was found as excavating 3314 but it is probable that this burial cut 3314. Much of 3314 which when identified was only very slightly different to the surrounding deposit - only being slightly yellow against a grey background. It was not effectively defined to the NE. The fill contained the usual material as found in midden i.e. charcoal and coprolite, same animal bone etc.
Recognition: Very hard to define - skull of skeleton appeared first, a cut was searched for - fill was similar to surrounding deposit, area was redused in search of cut - eventually a very faint pale yellowness was discovered against a slight greyer backround.
Definition: By following the above and also a faint cracking around the edge.
Execution: By leaf trowel from south edge of 'cut' and expose hand and feet bones, then exposure of bones mostly but going back to check edge as well.
Condition: Top crust dry - slightly moist deposit. Deposit flicks off bone well.
Consistency: Moderately firm.
Colour: 10 YR 5/3 greyish brown.
Texture: Fine sand clay silt (10:30:60)
Bedding: Massive; mixed 'midden and dump' deposit.
Inclusions: 3% small flecks and fragments of charcoal; 10% flecks up to medium fragments white plaster; 10% small fragments, flecks and layer of yellow organic deposit (coprolite?); 2% medium fragments brick aggregate (pale grey brown); 1% small fragments of salt; 15% small fragments of bone.
Post-depositional Features: Root activity.
Basal Boundary: Irregular anthropic - unclear as shares characteristics with underlying deposit.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
