Discussion: In this unit I dug the edge of a hearth! It was white coloured and located on top of floor.

It is built on top of the floor, the rest of the hearth is going through the baulk and next square, to the south.

Part of a fire installation F.290 (SU). 

Recognition: It has a different colour and different texture; it has clear borders visible on section and profile on baulk. 

Definition: Very clear boundaries on section. 

Execution: Leaf trowel. 

Condition: Dry. 

Consistency: soft 

Colour: 10 YR 6/3 pale brown to dark reddish brown 

Texture: silty clay, plaster 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: occasional <1% very small salts < 1 mm 

Post-depositional Features: scorched on surface, salts 

Basal Boundary: sharp/flat/curved at ends/anthropogenic
