Unit 3616
Category: Cut dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: posthole?
Data Category Information: Description: posthole
Dimensions: 0.29 x 0.25 x 0.141
Discussion: (3616) represents the cut of a possible post hole, in the N of space 117. It's steeply sloping/overhanging sides supported its interpretation as a post-hole and the direction of the slope at the base, gaver the impression that a post may have been set in it at an angle, going up to the S. However, there were no similar post-holes found at the time of excavation to link with (3616) making any further interpretation impossible.
Recognition: A sharp edge between (3615) and the surrounding mixed material.
Shape: a slightly sub-circular shape in plan
Sides: the sides were very steep and overhanging to the N, they sloped more gently to the W (see sketch section)
Base Break: the base was sloped from W to E on the western half of the cut, to the E it was flatter (almost 90 degrees to the sides)
Base: the base was flat to the E sloped to the W (as above!)
Orientation: it appeared as if the base sloped from S to N, the undercutting of the N half of it supports this idea, as if a post slanted from it up to the S?

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
