Discussion: (3646) represented a mixed clayey/charcoal layer which seems in retrospect to have been beneath cut (3616). The layer was followed initially, as the cut seemed to continue beneath the fill (3615), and its clayey composition seemed to agree with the interpretation of cut (3616) as a post hole. The clay would have provided a sturdy foundation for the post. In addition, the upper part of the layer was flecked with charcoal from the layer above at the base of (3615). However, during excavation similar clayey material seemed to extend beyond the sides of what I thought was the cut, so I stopped excavating. Instead, it may be part of the layer beneath (3616). The cleaning from the sides of the cut (3616) were later added to this mixed deposit as it was generally considered to be contaminated.
Recognition: A clayey/mixed layer beneath the charcoal lense in (3615).

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
