Discussion: (3695) represents a layer of mixed deposits lying in a depression through the upper floors to the W of the plaster lip in the SW corner of space 117. The uppermost deposits in this were joined (described as a, b and c). Beneath this towards the base of the deposit, the material was more homogenous and composed of mixed, chalky clay brownish material which had a sort of 'puddled' appearance. For this reason it could be that this deposit was the product of some sort of water vessel being placed in the corner of a floor. Through the period of its use, this may have worn through the plaster floors it sat on, overlying this mixed floor material deposit. Alternatively, the corner of three floors must have been truncated by some other activity, but it's difficult to decipher what!

Recognition: A mixed patch of compacted elements of different materials in the NE corner of the mid SW quadrant of space 117. These were excavated as a single unit but described separately (a, b + c) (see plan). Very different to the smooth, homogenous plastered floors elsewhere in this area.

Execution: Trowel/leaf trowel.
