Dimensions: 0.94 N-S x 0.87 E-W x 0.03 m

Discussion: (3699) represents skims of fragmented floors and the occupation debris above these in the S half of space 117. These were contained by F.289, a plaster 'lip' to their E edge. They seem to be the product of several episodes of plastering and use of the sapce contained by F.289. Some of the layers of plaster from (3699) may have been continuous with those of F.289, but their fragmental nature (especially to the E made this impossible to tell, so they were removed separately. Micro analysis of the sections left in the baulk should assist with decciphering the use of this area, but the 'dirty' nature of the deposits overlying the floors suggests that the ?? in the space may have been connected with the oven F.290 to the W of (3699).

Recognition: (3699) consists of several layers of floor deposits and the occupation material between these, lying above (3912). a) = thin skims of grey/brown silty material to W of deposit; b) very fragmented white plaster floor to W of deposit; c) pale brown/grey layer beneath floor; d) pale grey layer above (3912) to E of deposit.

Execution: Trowel/leaf trowel.

Condition: Mainly dry but damp in places.

Unit description: Seems to exist only as flotation sample 2, 100% sorted, recorded completely. A fairly small sample, mostly small bits of bone but generally with quite fresh surface condition. All is sheep-size, likely the remains of daily meals. Also contains a virtually pristine talon of a large raptor, with a fragment (modern break) of an articulating phalanx. How much of the foot was there in the ground? Looks like not very full sweepings, with the talon perhaps trimmed from a bird or bird portion prepared for some purpose. It is so extremely fresh that it must be primary. Otherwise it looks like the little bits left behind after sweeping everything up and removing the large pieces. Last number = 7
