Dimensions: 0.5 m E-W x 0.4 m N-S x 

 

Discussion: Thin layer of ash, silt and clay. Possibly part of deliberate backfilling process. 

 

Recognition: Recognised as a clayier more orange/yellow deposit with less grey than deposit above, cleaner (less white flecks). 

Definition: To E and W abutts oven walls. To N ends abruptly, cut? 

Execution: Leaf with difficulty as hard to see with oven intact, 1/2 sectioned. 

Condition: Sheltered, slightly moist. 

Consistency: firm 

Colour: mixture of 2.5 Y 6/3 light yellowish brown and 10 YR 4/3 dark greyish brown 

Texture: ash 10%, clay 30%, silt 60% 

Bedding: compound - not layered but patches of grey ashy silt and light yellowish grey clay unoriented, discontinous 

Inclusions: 10% charcoal <5 mm, 10% white salt concentrations <3 mm, 1% oven lining frags. <50 mm (same as 3132,3136), rare bone <1%, one large frag. rest are small, all inclusions are less in the yellow clay area 

Post-depositional Features: occasional root action, salts 

Basal Boundary: anthropogenic/wavy/distinct/; sitting on top of fairly loose ash + charcoal layer which tended to come away when this deposit excavated
