Unit 3783
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: pit fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: posthole; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: basal deposit
Dimensions: 0.58 m N-S x 0.40 m E-W x c.0.13 m deep
Discussion: This is the fill of a pit located respecting the W wall of space 159. It was quite a mixed fill, had constructional aggregates in it and so it was quite hard to distinguish the extent on the S part of it because it looked so much like the infill there it was also hard to define the boundary because again it laid upon infill, which is very similar to (3783).
Recognition: After the excavation of fill (3779), the traces of a cut could barely be noticed. The difference in colour with the surrounding soil is not much.
Definition: A layer inside a pit.
Execution: Trowel, 1/2 sectioned.
Condition: Moist, good.
Consistency: firm
Colour: 10 YR 5/3 brown
Texture: silty clay loam
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: 10% big pieces of plaster (2.5 Y 7/2 light gray); 20% pieces of clayey stuff, probably mortar (10 YR 5/1 gray); 10% flecks of phytolith
Post-depositional Features: salt crystalization (flecks to medium sized pieces) animal and insect activity
Basal Boundary: irregular and a little bit unclear basal boundary
