Discussion: 5087 was a thick layer of multiple floor surfaces, packing and occupation debris in the south-east corner of building 23/ space 178. It represents a substantial phase of occupation and unlike the later floors was not associated with any 'dirty areas' hearths or ovens. However, they do probably relate to the use of ovens in the south west corner of the building (probably F 539). This suggests that in this phase of the use of the building all of the ovens were in the south west of the building and the clean/ dirty aea divide (that is evident in later phases of use) was further to the west. The use of the area that these floors cover may therefore have been different to the use of the same area in later phases of the building.
