Unit 5209
Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: infill
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: basal deposit
Discussion: It was clear that the infill 4947 overlay deposit 5210, the top of which undulated greatly. However since 5210 need not have been continuous over the floor of sp.182 the lower part of 4947 was gridded out in 1m squares above where the floor was thought to be (from levels in sp.170). However these squares came of 5210 throughout + when this was realised the gridding was reduced as far as possible (though some samples were already taken). Hence the lower part of 4947 consists of 5209, 5213, 5214, 5216, 5217 + 5218. These are generally the same as 4947 proper though 5218 at the N end had a clear transition to very plastery material at about the height at which the unit number was changed - hence an extra archive sample was taken (5218.S2).

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
