Unit 7297

Category: layer    dug in 2003

Area: Trench I

Interpretive Categories: Arbitrary

Data Category Information: none

Dimensions: approx 7m E-W x 3m N-S

Discussion: Arbitrary layer removed in order to better define southern side of F733 and to locate and define any N-S walls in the area between F734 and the eastern limit of excavation. Initially believed this deposit to be room filland as removal of layer towards E, a N-S wall would be found defining the space and so extent of the room fill. This was NOT the case. Numerous limestone fragments pointed towards disturbance within the area, thus this layer comprised elements of both Chalcolithic and Byzantine deposits which only became clear after further removal of material. There was also an area of relatively recent disturbance.
The sketch plan (on this sheet) if compared with that on the additional sheet illustrates clearly the range of deposits this layer comprised and also explains why the aim - to locate and define N-S mudbrick walls was unsuccessful.

Recognition: Arbitrary layer removed to locate and define walls south of wall F733.

Finds Room Information:

All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.

X Finds Material: nothing recorded

Finds Material Stored: nothing recorded
