Unit 7944
Category: layer dug in 2004
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: room fill,truncated floor
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous
Description: Truncated floor above a plastered platform
Discussion: This was the unit on top of the plastered surface south of the plastered platform (U.7927) and appears to be in the same phase. It is possible that the surface above this platform is a truncated, unplastered surface as can be seen nicely in profile. There was a concentration of phytoliths in the eastern area of the unit and some were sampled (S.4). Also above the plastered surface was a horizon of heterogeneous material that was consistent across the surface. This lens was about 3-4 cm thick and was sitting directly upon the surface. Above this deposit was a mid-brown sandy silt packing material that was about 5-7 cm thick- this is what I am assuming was a previous surface. A baulk was left and sampled for micromorphology. This unit has helped define the bin structure- thing (U.7921) to the west as the bin plaster seems to join up to the level of the plaster surface.
The platform below this unit = u. 7981, 7956
Thickness of unit estimated in PX (DE 18/07/09).
