Unit 8968
Category: Layer dug in 2004
Area: TP
Interpretive Categories: kiln infill
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: oven; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: 0.70 x 0.40 x 0,35
Discussion: It is possibly an inner part of an oven dug into a pit ( its infill was recorded as unit 10969 and cut as 10968). The oven probably used earlier pit ( infill 11717 & cut 11718) but as the infill of this older pit consisted mostly of ashy, blueish deposit, it might have been associated with the oven.
The oven was surrounded by 2 Roman floors (units 10971 & 10977), one of which slipped down- possibly because of unstable layers consisting of the oven deposits.
