Unit 1094
Category: layer dug in 1996
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: ?building fill
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: 3.36m x 1.06m x 0.10-0.20m
Discussion: note: daub/mudbrick increases proportionally to S. as does relative compaction of material although this may relate to differential drying since this is first spit off S. half of building fill. X1 - approximate location of disturbed and pulverised small animal remains (just below top of layer) see section for thin but relatively extensive lens with frequent white particles, probably plant silicates - towards base of layer in S. half (see sketch plan for extent) corresponds to lenses visible in section drawing 124).
Execution: Trowel and mattock
Condition: hot, dry sunny
Consistency: variable: cloddy with friable and compact patches - more compact to south - non trowelable
Colour: as (1087)
Texture: as (1087)
Bedding: massive but heterogeneous
Inclusions: c 2% charcoal fragments (<30mm), c 5% daub/ mudbrick fragments (<100mm) increasing in density in south half of the layer, <2% plaster/marl fragments (<50mm), 2% plant silicates - frequently inv. thin, diffuse lenses (see section), 2% coprolite material (samples 3,4).
Post-depositional Features: moderate coarse roots, occasional animal burrows (to S)
Basal Boundary: arbitrary

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
X Finds Material: nothing recorded
Finds Material Stored: nothing recorded
