Unit 12124
Category: Layer dug in 2005
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: room fill
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Excavation of top room fill layer space 269. We inferred that this unit was room fill because it was bounded by walls and because of its color and texture, and we proceeded with the excavation by mattocking and then cleaning with a hoe, cleaning any possible features with a trowel and then repeating the process, being careful not to mattock any possible features. There were surprisingly large chunks of plaster and mudbrick, many of which we took to be features until we realized they were sitting on fill. They were probably fallen pieces of wall or roof, although it is still unclear why they were so large. One feature we discovered was a raised cylinder (a pillar?), unit XXX, that remains 60-70 cm above the floor. It is difficult to tell where the floor is because there are several layers of floor and we were excavating in haste.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
