Category: Layer dug in 2012
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: roomfill
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: NS: 139 cm; EW: 211 cm; Depth: 25 cm
Discussion: This layer is more compact than the preceeding layer of roomfill, although both are heterogenous and have similar inclusions. In the lower parts this layer holds a lot of ashy material. The ammount of large pottery sherds and clayballs is substantial and possibly marks a large scale depositing event. Discussions between JMR and EUR and KTX have not yet been able to precisely state the way this layer is connected to the walls, buttress or plaster. These observations are also difficult because many finds, e.g. pottery or bone, are sticking in what is considered a wall. A small sounding (u. 16979) revealed the next level of roomfill as well as an interface between both layers characterizes by a very ashy charcoal material.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
