Discussion: Mortar rendering over F.4004 upright/engaged pilaster and over the surface of bench F.1654. About 15mm thick in places, it fills crevices of the core of the feature to create a smooth surafce over which plaster (17904) is applied. It appears that this upright postdates an engaged pilaster fashioned from similar mortar/plaster against the wall c.0.1m thick that sat on top of the bench F.1654 and that later it was modified by the addition of brick core (17922) to enlarge the upright.
