Unit 18689
Category: Layer dug in 2011
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: mud brick pillar
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: pedestal/podium/plinth; Material: brick
Discussion: Removing the mudbrick (18685) revealed both plaster mortar/molding (18688) and the round brown layer of silty loam (18689) described here. The extremely clean round shape of this layer, combined with the evidence of the wall scarring on the western face of wall F.4088 suggests that this is evidence of a mudbrick pillar which, after being constructed, may have been adjusted and addended by features like the plaster represented by (18688) and the mudbrick above it (18685) which seems to be composed of the same materials.
Recognition: evident round brown clay loam bound by (18688), found when removing (18685)

Execution: trowel

Texture: silty loam

Post-depositional Features: plaster surrounding (18688), mudbrick (18685) laid over
