Unit 21795

Discussion: Unit is a micro event of plaster located in an extremely degraded state around the w, n, and e edges of hearth F 7402. It appears to be a lipped edge construction like U. 20078 excavated in 2014. However this layer is located cleary within the hearth not outside on the edges. Also it does not demonstrate discoloration indicative of intense burning (like hearth floors U. 22402 or U. 21749). This suggest this floor was added perhaps as a cosmectic construction, perhaps during a period of time when the hearth was not as much in use, and then covered by floors U. 21749. It is strange that F. 7401 should contain so many clean plaster floors which all do not seem to continue onto the s edge, and appear to be some kind of intentional border to parts of the hearth. It is clear this hearth was reused and remodeled many times throughout the life/phases of the B. 80. Perhaps for different functional and aesthetic purpose at different times.
