Unit 22636
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: wall plaster
Data Category Information: In Situ: non in-situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: plaster; Deposition: layered (wall plaster); Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: The outermost layer of wall plaster, burnt but preserved in patches on the face of wall F. 7712, the easternmost wall of building 131. It was found in the fill of burial F. 7714, where it had slid off during the cutting and filling of the burial. This portion was sampled, and the rest exposed after the removal of room fill u. 22635. Due to the degree of burning and damage in this building, it is difficult to tell where the patches of wall plaster are likely to be contemporaneous across the wall. It would damage all plaster layers behind this one to fully excavate it, since the plaster layers are not securely attached to wall F. 7712, thus it was left in situ in 2015. It is likely that this layer is contemporaneous with u. 22642, the latest floor plastering in the building.
