Unit 23468
Category: Layer dug in 2017
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Floor,Plastered floor
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Deposition: multiple
Description: U23468 is the Eastern side of U23461, which was not affected by the fire burning on top of the U23461 series of floors.
Discussion: U23468 was the Eastern side of U23461, which was not affected by the fire burning on top of the U23461 floors. U23468 was sampled separately for two reasons: 1) in order to maximize the routine-floatation sample from the burnt U23461 in order to have more possibilities for retrieval of appropriate charcoal samples for radiocarbon dating, and 2) because U23468 felt far more compact, as if it was a solid construction of plaster rather than series of floors. The findings from the plastered floors below U23468 justified this early decision, especially if the final model and orthophoto are examined; there is a very high possibility that the eastern part of the central, eastern Building 52 was in fact a platform, inclusive of more burials than F8521. On that final orthophoto a line running N-S seems to clearly separate the eastern from the western, central space of Building 52: burnt floors in the west -- white floors, probable platform and burials in the East.
Consistency: Firm at places; compact at others

Post-depositional Features: Compaction from floors above; buring in the West (i.e. on U23461)

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
