Unit 2514
Category: layer dug in 1997
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: makeup deposit
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: main part=1.00 m wide x 0.90 m long, max depth: 0.12 m. 3 smaller patches to north and north east but only one in corner of room: > 0.02 m. thick
Discussion: This material represents the initial construction of the platform. Though a massive, unstructured and poorly sorted dump of material, this material appears to have been deliberately selected/created for constructional purposes- it is not just a random collection of material. It contrasts markedly in both contour and texture with more middeny-derived levelling material below. This deposit is actually present in discrete patches, but only given one number. Only the larger southern block and the one in the NE corner of the room has any thickness though.
Execution: Trowel, shovel and mattock.
Condition: Warm and dry.
Consistency: Firm.
Colour: Mostly 10 YR 6/6 brownish yellow, but with darker 10 YR 4/6 mottles.
Texture: sandy clayey loam
Bedding: Massive- mixed dump of material.
Inclusions: Moderate to frequent mudbrick/mortar fragments (<50 mm<20 %), occasional scattered charcoal flecks (<5 mm<5 %), occasional flecks of plaster (<2 %).
Post-depositional Features: Some very occasional fine rootlet penetration, some deposition of mineral salts.
Basal Boundary: Undulating but well defined interface (0-5 mm) with ashy middeny finer makeup/levelling deposit below.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
