Unit 3903
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: infill,make up
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: floor (packing only); Material: pise-like; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: 1.55 N-S x 0.91 E-W
Discussion: (3903) very complex unit. In NE corner there was loose light gray coloured soil. To the left of this I found more compact clayish and darker gray stuff. Around the mid of the unit to the E of (2060) a more compact plasterish but light gray coloured soil came put. Finally, to the S of (3903) some mudbricks running through EW directions appeared.
Although the compactness of the soil was slightly different we gave one unit number because the composition of the soil was the same all around the unit except for the mudbricks in the S.
Recognition: Looser than the above layer. Has lighter gray colour than the darker gray colour of above layer. Also, the deposit is differentiable on the profile of cut (on the id of NW corner square).
Definition: The boundaries are up to an edge on S quarter within a cut in the middle, up to a wall on N and W, and up to baulks on its E and S. Baulk excavated as (3683).
Execution: By trowel and leaf trowel.
Condition: Dry.
Consistency: partly soft NE and SE corners, firm in between these, strong on S end
Colour:
Texture: 60% silty clay, 10% clay
Bedding: massive, wavy bedding, sloping down to the S and E
Inclusions: burnt brick aggregates orange coloured 5% (small)
Post-depositional Features: salts
Basal Boundary: clear/wavy/anthropogenic
