Discussion: Gridded infill at base of 5210 + above surface 5231 (in S half of space) + midden like fill 5229 in NW. The squares were laid out on the metre grid, hence the uneveness at the S end. Because the foor dips down slightly to the S the top of the gridded infill is up to 0.15m above the floor though flotation samples were selected to include the material directly above the occupation, where present.
We began with 5226, following a dark grey clay surface revealed at the E end of the sounding. In fact there was a scrappy later floor above this (5231), not seen in the sounding + therefore partly overdug, but becoming much cleare (and dirtier) to the S. It was not seen in the N end of the space where the W squares overlay 5229, which mounded up against the W wall. Only 5215, 5221 + 5224 were taken all the way down to the earlier floor ( ).
