Unit 21303
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Bricks of wall
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: building; Material: brick; Deposition: homogeneous
Description: Brick c 60x30x10 cm
Discussion: The bricks of the wall F.3656 comprises this unit. The wall was eroded from exposure since 2012 and also closeness to surface. This has made it a bit unclear and fragmented. However an approximate size could be observed of the bricks c 60x30x10 cm, although the thickness varied a bit (0,06-0,1 m).
Five courses of brick were excavated. The first two were very eroded, especially in the northern part. The third course made it clear that the wall was built against and over an older wall (F 7572) in the north. Also the fourth course was eroded in N (it was hard to distinguish between mortar and brick at times). The fifth course was the only one with probable preserved thickness (c 0,10).
A foundation course made a sixth course; it was given an own U-nr (21348), since it was so distinct from the other courses, probably reused from older walls.
