Unit 20628

Interpretive Categories: Plastered platform
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: raised area (platform); Material: white clay; Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation); Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: Plastered platform/bench lying on top of eroded plaster U.20914. The SE end of it was excavated in 2012 (platform lip). The SW and SC parts of the platform are missing due to the post retrieval cut (U.20697).
By removing this layer of plaster we came into the make-up underneath and realised that the platform went through various phases of construction/re-modelling. The northern part of the platform seems to have been a later addition to the original structure, 20-30cm shorter in an E-W axis than previously inferred when the plaster was covering the whole of it. The make-up of this northern part is darker, sandier and much coarser than the fine greyish make-up of the rest of the platform. The eastern lip of the platform appears to be an even later addition to structure. The southern part of this lip was excavated in 2012.
It is becoming very dificult to link this platform feature with the floors left by the BACH team in the eastern half of Sp.87.
