Interpretive Categories: Cut of post retrieval pit 

 

Data Category Information: Description: posthole

 

Discussion: Post retrieval cut by south wall of Sp.87. The infill of this cut consisted of a silty clay, brownish matrix towards the bottom of the sequence, and the same sediment mixed with numerous microlayers of ashes towards the top of it. This might indicate that the cut was infilled in several different episodes.
The bottom of the cut slopes towards the SW. In the middle of it there is a small depression that seems to correspond with the intitial location of the post.
The western limit of the cut is ill-defined due to the difficulties entailed in distinguishing between the pit infill and the building infill, very similar in colour and texture in this area.
