Dimensions: c. 2-3 mm thick, irregular patches 

 

Discussion: patches of baked mud /clay lining adhering to roof + sides of oven, fragmentary and flaky and therefore not continuos. on excavation found lining comprised many lining which were difficult to treat lens by lens (should pick it up in the west section). Basic composition was very rich in phytoliths. 

 

Execution: leaf 

Condition: v. hot & v. bright 

Consistency: rigid 

Colour: 4 distinct colors resulting from baking + scorching. surface: 7.5 YR 8/2 pinkish white, 10 YR 6/4 light yellowish brown, 10YR 3/2 very dark greyish brown, 10 YR 6/3 pale brown 

Texture: natural salts <2mm 5% 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: 40% <3mm phytolihs, 20% >2mm resicularvoids (plant voids) 

Post-depositional Features: constructional (in oven lining), clearly visible but shares characteristics with underlying unit, irregular and broken and a heavily scorched
