Interpretive Categories: -,Burial fill

Dimensions: 1.95 x 0.60 m

Description: A mix of silty and ashy lenses, with quite dark as well as reddish patches in the red basically gray-brown soil. The soil is fairly dry + crumbly. Some building material remains are in the fill-burned clay fragments, mostly. A couple loose and unidentifiable bone chips are also in the fill apart from the skeleton - bioturbation is probably the culprit.

Discussion: Rectangular burial oriented E-W, clearly outlined in plan at top as fill of loose, dark soil in matrix of lighter, more compact soil. Some animal bones are visible. X2 immediately next to/ in contact with displaced metacarpal (?) on edge of animal burrow. But given old breaks, probably in fill of grave or burrow. Fill of burial is variable, relatively sterile, but does contain small anounts of animal bone, charcoal, brick, etc. Several animal burrows run through the burial. A glass flask (X1) lay under the right side of the head. Iron nails around the periphery indicate the presence of a coffin. Some bones have been scattered by animal activity, but most are in place.
