Unit 3309

Category: layer    dug in 1998

Area: South

Site Sketch: Click here to open in a new window

Interpretive Categories: wall of bin

Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: bin; Material: pise-like; Deposition: homogeneous

Dimensions: 0.28 m E-W x 0.07 m N-S, max 20 mm thick

Discussion: Linear deposit part of original bin walls. Same as (3315) to E. Possibly truncated as only ? slope survives (see discussion and sheet (3302)) the occasional plaster fragment on the surface of this may be remnants of (3302). This unit and (3315) do not physically touch "bin" cut (3352) so stratigraphically have no relationship but I think it can be assumed that they are later than it.

Recognition: Brownish cream deposit slighlty underlying )3187) but mainly to N of it. A linera deposit running more or less E-W sloping down smoothly to N at about 1 in 1.

Definition: ? out at about where (3302) starts in W, continues into E L.O.E.

Execution: Trowel, leaf some left unexcavated in micromorphology section.

Condition: Dry, covered.

Consistency: firm

Colour: 10 YR 7/2 light grey

Texture: sand 10%, silt 70%, clay 20%

Bedding: massive

Inclusions: frequent 5% salts <1 mm, occasional 1% charcoal flecks 1mm, 1% orange flecks (burnt clay?), occasional phytolith, occasional plaster frags. on top

Post-depositional Features: possibly truncated from above (see discussion on back of sheet (3302))

Basal Boundary: anthropogenic/sharp/smooth/sloping down to N

Finds Room Information:

All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
