Unit 3364
Category: Cluster dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Layer organic
Data Category Information: Location: between walls; Material: organic - like; Deposition: secondary deposition
Discussion: The north and west edges of the unit were difficult to define as the deposit lifted off easily, therefore continuing at the same horizon unto the surrounding area. The most distinguishing factor however was that the surrounding yellow material was harder in texture (see unit 3375) and that 3364 was more flaky, friable and contained a greater density of phytolith lenses and yellow material. The features became more diffuse towards the edges and the horizon appeared to continue as there was a natural interface which came away fairly easily. The horizon was followed as layer 3375 which contained many of the same characteristics as 3364.
This overlay FI, 3601, 3365, 3600 directly. Appears to have been an organic layer of possible dung ongoing with 3364 as concentration and spreading away as 3375. Could it have been used to seal the FI?
Recognition: The deposit is yellow and flakey in appearance and appears to cluster around/over an in situ burnt deposit. However, the spread of yellow/dry/phtolith deposit may continue in more diffuse concentration further away.
