Unit 3734
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: bin; Material: pise-like; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: 0.26 m N-S x max 0.10 m E-W
Discussion: Part of bin wall build for F 256. It is sloping down to W but possibly this is slumping or original cut 3354 was concave. Initially thought to be cut by 3354 but later realised to be within it. A small patch to the E runs outside bin walls. It probably was just used to fill small cavity in oven wall surface at same time as bin was being built or spilt over.
This deposit only exists on E side of bin.
Not sure whether this patch is post bin cut 3352 or previous to it and being cut by it. I have done the matrix as if it is not cut by it but sketch shows it being cut by it.
Recognition: Very light brown silt first seen in 1997 in baulk section which truncated it but revealed in plan when 3354 (bin cut for 256) was excavated.
Definition: Truncated to E by 1997 baulk section (NIS vertical) and possibly 3352 (bin cut 257), obliquely, hence it is a very irregular shape.
Execution: Half sectioned initially. Leaf.
Condition: Hot and covered.
Consistency: firm
Colour: 2.5 YR 6/4 light yellowish brown
Texture: fine sand 20% silt 80%
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: 2% charcoal flecks <3 mm, 2% phytoliths <2 mm
Post-depositional Features: to E by 1997 baulk section and 3352 from above possibly (truncated?)
Basal Boundary: abrupt/sloping to W and to E

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
