Discussion: (3934) represents 2 layers of floors and the occupation deposit overlying them, to the W of ovens F.269 and F.293. These were recorded as a single unit as their composition was considered to be sufficiently similar (+ different from the floor/occupation deposits beneath) to be removed as one. The make up of this layering was remarkably (!) consistent across the area that was excavated between F.290 and the W baulk of space 117. No marked difference was noted between these deposits and those above them (also floor and occupation deposits). The plaster layer within (3934) was fairly fragmented. It may have been a floor layer, but if it was, it was heavily truncated. In the SW corner of the area excavated there was an additional layer of similar floor and occupation deposits which could have been the result of a floor repair in this area which slopes steeply down to the S. To the N, the lower floor layer was distinctly thicker where it rose up to the level of the N half of space 117. It could be that this floor layer also acted as part of the make up of this raised level.
Recognition: Brown floor layers and mixed occupation debris lying above a charcoal rich ashy layer.
