Unit 10732
Category: layer dug in 2004
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: fire-spot,midden layer
Data Category Information: Location: external; Deposition: finely bedded
Dimensions: (300cm x 34cm and 260cm x 30cm x 10-15cm height (two sections)
Discussion: the previous walls that had defined the western/southern part of 229 were determined to be later than the internal walls of the space and were removed. The adjacent midden layer (10714) had clearly been part of this midden, as had the midden on the other side of the wall (11023). This midden layer is very dark with many inclusions of charcoal, plaster and clay, as well as other organic egeologic remains. There are significant levels of charcoal. The inclusions of bone indicate a high probability that this is infact midden :)
TDV calculated from dims
LY 14/07/10 this may actually be a fire-spot missed in excavation, but so much of the surrounding midden must have been excavated (based on the depth) that I have left the data category as midden
