Unit description: H1 is a small pendant. X1 is a split proximal metatarsal point. An immense unit, with 007, 005, 003, and 002-sized animals represented. All body parts represented. A small amount of low-temperature burning, and no high-temperature burning. Weathering generally slight to low medium in range, although there are a few examples of more heavily weathered bone. Cut marks on several ribs, particularly the 003-sized ones. A very clear blow on one of the 007-sized long bones. Both young and older animals present in 003 and 007 sizes. F420 and 421 are cattle DNA samples (touched and washed). Upper part of the forelimb had already been recorded, but the rest of the identifiable fragments were recorded in 2000. A high proportion of the caprine pubis bones could be sexed and showed the presence of male and female animals in the sample. The dentition of caprines mainly came from animals within a limited age range, very worn teeth were completely absent and the deciduous dentition all showed significant wear. The ages represented were similar to those found in unit 1091, and like 1091 maxillary teeth were more common than mandibular ones. The frontal bone of a caprine shows a single cut mark and may be from horn removal. Roe deer is represented by a metatarsal, an incisor and possibly an upper molar. Pig bones are also present and most of the pig teeth could have come from one young animal. Some fox teeth were also found. Equid bones were quite common and the teeth suggest that at least two of the three species were present and perhaps all three of them. The dentition identified as E. hydruntinus shows a wide variety in the size. 4mm flotation samples #1 and 2 were recorded for diagnostics only. Most of the material was well fragmented pieces from 003 sized animals, with the occasional burnt bone; digested bone was relatively common. Last number = 833.Figurine Records: No Ground Stone Records: Yes
