Unit 22642
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: floor plaster
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: white clay; Deposition: multiple; Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: This is the last layer of plaster applied across nearly the entire building, though it lips up to the NW platform F. 7950, SW platform F. 7951, and bench on the E platform F. 7952. It was still patchy, although we were able for the most part to follow a consistent line where it was preserved along the walls. Patches in the center were interpreted as belonging to this same floor layer. On top of this layer in sp. 556 was a juvenile femur seemingly intentionally placed at the bottom of a glume wheat cluster (22656). Otherwise the entire layer was devoid of artifacts. Althoughthis layer was quite consistent across the entire space, the layers below it reflect many different makeuo/capping/restructuring events, including a layer of poorly preserved painted plaster on the threshold between space 500 and space 504. It is very interesting, then, to see such a consistent and clean layer applied across this enormous space as one of the final maintenance activities before burning the building and starting a new building atop it.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
