Definition: Clearly defined from the brick (3106) it surrounded in wall (61)
Execution: Trowel and pick
Condition: Slightly damp, and crumbly. Late afternoon sun
Consistency: Fairly firm
Colour: 10 YR 4/2 Dark greyish brown
Texture: Ashy clay - quite clayey
Bedding: Massive
Inclusions: 5% charcoal (flecks and small pieces); 5% plaster (flecks and small pieces); 2% bone; 2% clay (10 YR 5/6 - Yellowish brown), ( small pieces)
Post-depositional Features: Animal burrowing and salt encrustation
Basal Boundary: A clear, constructional basal boundary above the wall [58] beneath. The surface between these was smooth, fairly level and sharply defined, slumping downwards from north to south.
