Dimensions: 20cm wide, 5cm deep, 65cm long 

 

Discussion: These red/orange bricks were built into the lower part of the wall. The mortar stays the same throughout. The bricks do not continue all the way across but seem to have been placed in fairly randomly. To the eastern end of wall 403 these redder bricks extend out of the normal line of wall 403 northwards in the direction of wall 401. The upper part of the south edge of wall 401 overhangs these red bricks - see sketch. 

 

Recognition: red-orange bricks in walls 403 and 405 

Definition: begins roughly half way down the wall, although does not extend all the way across 

Execution: trowel 

Condition: good 

Consistency: firm 

Colour: rich red-brown 

Texture: silty 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: none. large piece of pottery 6cm by 2cm 

Post-depositional Features: salty interfaces. dry, cracked 

Basal Boundary: with mortar: very sharp, prominent contrast, flat and smooth. sharp, constructional
