Unit 22003

Category: Layer    dug in 2014

Area: North

Interpretive Categories: foundation trench infill

Data Category Information: Location: between walls; Deposition: heterogeneous

Description: fill between walls (N) F.3626 and (S) F.3646

Discussion: The infill (U.22003) was placed within a very irregular (in section) foundation cut (U.22016), that had been registered along the northern wall of Sp.488, B.108. The consistency and texture of the deposit indicated that it was accumulated and loaded as different materials that were probably disturbed during the execution of the long foundation trench and then redistributed again all over the cut (after erecting within it the wall F.3626). In consequence, the infill respected the latter mentioned wall. The southern boundary of the deposit laid on the truncated wall F.3646 which partial demolition was connected to the digging activity. Among the significant finds recorded within the layer (U.22003) one may mention a bucranium (X3) located on the bottom of the infill in its most Western segment. The uncovered piece of eco-fact most plausibly must be regarded in terms of special foundation deposit, that had been offered just before the construction phase of the building. In the tackling context the same may be said about the equid scapula (X1_19580) found toward the east at the same level in 2012. At this stage of excavation there is no doubt that described infill (u22003) as well as three arbitrary layers assigned under the subsequent unit numbers: U.20471, 20486, 19580 should be altogether considered as the same, long infill of the foundation trench, that was loaded in order to cover underground structure of just erected wall F.3626.
- Worth noticing is that except for the bucranium (X3) there were articulated bones (S4) uncovered within the layer. They can be utilized as suitable material for C14 analyses that in future research may give the dates of the B.108’s construction phase.
