Dimensions: N-S 1.9m, E-W 1.8m, thickness 10-15cm 

 

Discussion: A spit of 10-15cm was excavated in space 310. Beforehand all animal disturbances were removed (18304).

The soil is very heterogeneous, greyish brown with a lot of yellowish chunks of burnt clay (up tp 10cm long), which are harder. The chunks are of different sizes up to 10cm long. Lime spots and black spot (charcoal) and one lump of mudbrick = clay with straw.

The fill contains a lot of large pot sherds. In the NW corner and along the W wall (F 5058) a lot of animal bones appeared, pot sherds and artefacts as well. On 9/8/09 this was given a cluster number (18316) on 8/8/09 however all finds were collected as 18303.

Colour: greyish brown/ clay lumps pale yellow 

Texture: sandy silt / clay lumps 

Bedding: very heterogeneous 

Inclusions: frequently pottery, animal bones, lumps of burnt clay / few obsidian, charcoal 

Post-depositional Features: root action 

Basal Boundary: arbitrary = flat
