Unit 3191
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: infill
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: basal deposit
Dimensions: 2 m E-W x 0.80 m N-S, c. 0.15 m thick
Discussion: This is the infill of space 160. After taking off a thin layer of the fill, the wall at the SE corner was clearly defined and understood that it continued eastwards until the artificial cut of the space. The top layers (part) of the infill contains quite an amount of animal bone, stone and charcoal. As we get down lower, the artefacts start to vanish. There is also quite a lot of big pieces of plaster within the fill. It was stopped excavated before coming to the floors so the basal boundary is arbitrary. The reason is because we came close to floors, for proper sampling and sight of profile the area under (3191) will be divided to two with a bulk area excavated individually.
The wall that was defined was numbered as 404 and used thereon as the souhern limit of excavation, no further excvation took place south of this wall.
Recognition: Layer in space 160, most probably infill.
