Unit 20267
Category: Layer dug in 2012
Area: TPC
Interpretive Categories: mud-brick collapse
Data Category Information: In Situ: non in-situ; Location: external; Material: brick; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: u. 20267 is a layer of red mud-brick material, likely mostly from the collapse and destruction of f. 3952. It has been cut into by several pits (f. 3979, 3980, & 3950), and was left unexcavated at the end of the 2012 season.
2013: This unit was found to span the entire trench E-W. It was bounded to the South by u.20221, an extremely heterogeneous mixture of Neolithic mud-brick material and later fill, as well as by wall f.3952. After the collapse of the walls that created this unit, it was cut into by many pits (5) as well as a burial that seemed to contain individuals buried in a Neolithic fashion (f.3931) which suggests this collapse occurred in the Neolithic period. Removing this layer of collapse revealed several walls, and showed that many apparently Neolithic walls actually predate sp. 493. The collapse is probably from all three of the walls revealed.
