Interpretive Categories: sunken floor (SE of sp.135)
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: floor (packing only); Material: plaster; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: This unit consisted of highly eroded make-up layer called a sunken floor because its lower elevation in the centre than on the edges and distinctly raised edges as well (in some parts sitting on the top of hearth superstructure U.21728).
This unit was sealed by brown and mixed packed dirty floor layer (U.20069). Unit 21722 was determined as a compound layer after revealing mixed make-up layer underneath the remnant of white plaster at the very top of this unit.
These white plaster remnants are partially lapping up onto the superstructure layer of the new hearth feature (F.7402).
This plaster sunken/basin floor layer may have been contemporaneous with the plaster molding on the hearth.
Plaster samples (S3-S19) were taken at 0.20m x 0.20m. The x,y coordinates for the corners of this more or less N-S grid are provided below:
SW: 932.91, 958.91
SE: 933.68, 958.61
