Unit 3681
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: floor
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: white clay; Deposition: multiple
Dimensions: 1.40 x 0.74 x 0.01
Discussion: (3681) consisted of 2 layers of yellowish white plaster separated by a skim of ashy grey material. It probably represents 2 episodes of floor plastering during a period of use in between which charcoally deposits (possibly from the oven to the W) accumulated on the floor surface. As with the ashy layer above (3681)/(3673) it was contained within the plaster lips to the N and E. (3681) clearly ran over the plaster lip to the N but did not reach the lip to the E, so its relationship to this is hard to deduce.
Recognition: A yellowish white layer of plaster with pale greysih underlay.

Unit description: This material is from flotation only. It is from the plaster floor in space 117 of bdg 5, and is a very tiny unit. in the 1mm sort there is microfauna (mostly teeth), enamel from a dog-sized animal tooth, and three fish scales. The 4mm contains 4 small unidentifiable fragments, none of which are burned or digested. As usual, the floor is very clean.
