Discussion: Sieved as (3752).

The nature of the join between brick and mortar means that separating the two proved difficult. However, like the brick, finds were few but there was a degree of yellow organic material. 

Recognition: Visible in courses as darker brown/orange brown layer between greyer brick layers (3753). 

Definition: Clear in section. 

Execution: Trowel, pick and mattock. 

Condition: Dry. 

Consistency: strong/compact 

Colour: 10 YR 4/6 dark yellowish brown 

Texture: silty but with more sandy grains than (3753) 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: small amounts of charcoal, some organic material/phytoliths 

Post-depositional Features: some sooting
