Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: floor layers
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: floor (packing only); Material: pise-like; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: 1.16 x 0.48 x 0.05
Discussion: (3605) represents an irregular edged deposit of fine compact material from the NW corner of space 117. It appeared to extend through the baulk into the adjacent segment of this space to the W. It was made up of fine layers of grey/brown /white plaster/silt material. It could be the result of attempts to repair or level the floor of building 2 during its use.
Recognition: (3605) was composed of a denser, browner material than that surrounding it.
Execution: Trowel (leaf).
Condition: Dry.
Consistency: friable
Colour: varied in plan but 10 YR 6/3 pale brown on exacavation
Texture: chalky silt
Bedding: compound layered
Inclusions: occasional charcoal (flecks), clay (flecks), pebbles (tiny), and plant silicates, with small patches of plaster
Post-depositional Features: salt encrustation, especially towards the base of the deposit
Basal Boundary: a sharp/clear/anthropogenic basal boundary, this was defined by salt encrustation, the surface was smooth and level
