Unit 3937
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: part of FI,part of platform
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: floor (packing only); Material: pise-like; Deposition: homogeneous
Description: When baulk between two westernmost squares was excavated this series of layers was seen all sloping down to N and slightly concavely (?) around (3376). When excavated in plan it seemed to be spearate units but in baulk it seemed to be all part of the same process of deposition so given one number for flot. Description same as (3640) and (3698). Layers of grey silt + plaster all sloping to N. Truncated by micro.morph. block samples. Not archived, see (3640/3698).
Discussion: Compound layer of silt and plaster layers sloping to N and S around FI. May be part of the structure of this fire installation or possibly part of of a platform. Truncated/worn away floor and make up layers that have possibly been cut away for FI hearth (3393). When N/S baulk was excavated it was revealed that (3610) and (3640) were the same and probably also (3398). These layers tend to slope down towards N slightly.
