Unit 2024
Category: layer dug in 1997
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: barn floor?,dump
Data Category Information: Description: penning; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: 5 m E/W x 2.5- 3.5 m N/S
Discussion: Layer which contains orange/yellow organic (?) material. That lens throughout the deposit mixed with building aggregates of plaster and mudbrick. Apart from distinct colour, specialists do not see much difference in content from dumps above. However a horizon of bone,(some very large), was noted within this deposit, and from the base of 1873 above, (probably being the same deposition). Interesting deposit lies between the sealing of truncated building deposits, floors, platforms, bins, etc., and between the removal of the posts and the demolition of the W wall. Is this an intermediate phase of end of human habitation, replaced by animals, and then the complete end of the building as a useful ?? or shelter. If the yellow is orange then animal housing may be a best choice.
Bulks excavated in 1998 but kept last year's unit number.
